Anna Gahlin

My practice investigates the ephemeral nature of colour and how we view it.  Following two discrete enquiries into impermanence and the role colours hold in our memories, I make vibrant oil paintings and subtly coloured works on paper and glass, made within parameters of preordained ‘rules’ while allowing for the unpredictability of chance in the process.  In our normative culture that is so overloaded with imagery I feel there is a valid place for aniconic art.

I have a studio at Black Chalk Workshops in central Bath, and am a member studioxyz, a collective of artists whose research based practices extend beyond the confines of their studio walls.
